Art Therapy: a journey of transformation through art

I’ve just returned to Copenhagen from Jutland, where I took part in a deeply meaningful training in the field of Integrative Art Therapy.

The experience was enriching both personally and professionally. In this international course, I shared space with professionals from different countries—France, Romania, Estonia, Norway, Spain… Together, we explored new perspectives and tools for therapeutic work through art.

Exploring Art Therapy from Different Perspectives

During this training, we approached Art Therapy through various methodologies and theoretical frameworks. Some of the key areas we explored included:

  • Jung: Ego, shadow, feminine and masculine archetypes, and self-concept.

  • Working with Shame: Techniques from Vibeke Skov, clinical psychologist, to manage and heal this emotion.

  • Images and Archetypes: Analysis of the individual, cultural, and collective unconscious.

  • Creative Expression: Use of clay and glass to represent the inner world.

  • Music Therapy: Exploration of the voice, body, and breath as therapeutic tools.

  • Spaces of Being: Individualization and socialization processes through private, social, and solitary spaces.

  • Working with the Inverse Method: Facing and transforming personal shadows.

  • Dream Interpretation: Understanding dream phases and their role in the therapeutic process.

  • Emotional Management: Working with negative emotions like fear, anger, and sadness, as well as positive ones like surprise, joy, and interest.

  • Meditation and Rhythm: Using drumming and meditation to connect with the present moment and self-awareness.

Art Therapy: A Bridge Between Creativity and Healing

This course was a space for exploration where I expanded my knowledge in clinical and intercultural psychology. Once again, I witnessed how art can be a powerful channel to unlock emotions, release trauma, and foster emotional well-being.

Art allows us to express ourselves beyond words, offering a way to understand our inner world and process life experiences from a new perspective.
